At Seaview Nursing Home, we believe that the simplest moments can bring the greatest joy — and few things brighten our residents’ day like a visit from our four-legged friend, Perdy the dog. With her wagging tail and gentle spirit, Perdy has become a much-loved member of the Seaview family, spreading happiness, comfort and companionship wherever her paws take her.
Perdy, a calm and friendly dog, pays regular visits to Seaview Nursing Home as part of our commitment to enhanced emotional well-being through pet therapy. Whether she’s padding softly through the lounge or curling up beside a resident for a cuddle, Perdy’s presence brings a soothing energy that everyone feels.
One of our residents smiled as she gently stroked Perdy’s soft fur and said, “She reminds me of the dog I had when I was a little girl. Seeing her brings back such happy memories.”
Research continues to show that interaction with animals can reduce stress, combat loneliness and even lower blood pressure — particularly in older adults. At Seaview, we see the benefits first-hand. Residents who are usually reserved light up when Perdy walks into the room. Her gentle nature and unconditional affection encourage conversation, physical engagement and emotional connection.
For many, Perdy is a source of comfort. She offers a calming presence during quiet moments and sparks joyful conversations when she trots over to greet a familiar face.
Perdy’s visits often create heart-warming scenes — residents chatting about past pets, telling stories from childhood, or simply enjoying the simple pleasure of a dog’s companionship. Staff and family members love to see the way Perdy brings people together, creating shared moments of warmth and joy.
“We’ve seen residents who rarely speak become expressive and engaged when Perdy is around,” says Activities Coordinator. “She has an extraordinary way of making people feel safe, loved, and noticed.”
It’s not just about petting a dog — Perdy represents companionship, connection, and care. She reminds us that joy can come in the smallest of packages, and that love knows no bounds — not even species.
One residents, summed it up perfectly: “She may only be small, but she fills the whole room with happiness.”
