At Dene Place, part of the Cardinal Healthcare family, we are privileged to share in the lives of remarkable individuals. Each resident brings their own story, passions, and memories, shaping the unique tapestry of our care home community. It is with both sadness and gratitude that we remember and celebrate the life of June Ruth Kathleen Florence David, who passed away peacefully on 7th April 2025, at the age of 90.
June’s presence at Dene Place was felt by all. With her gentle grace, warm smile, and sparkling wit, she touched the hearts of fellow residents, staff, and visitors alike. Born in 1934, June’s life spanned decades of change and adventure. Yet, at the heart of her story was a lifelong love of dance—a passion that never faded and continued to inspire those around her.
June’s love for ballroom dancing was legendary at Dene Place. Even in her later years, she would recount stories of gliding across polished floors, her feet moving in perfect time to the music. Her family often shared tales of her youthful competitions, elegant costumes, and the joy she found in every step. For June, dance was more than a pastime; it was an expression of freedom, artistry, and connection.
It was not uncommon to find June tapping her toes to a waltz or humming along to a foxtrot during our music afternoons. She would often encourage others to join in, reminding us that “it’s never too late to dance.” Her enthusiasm was infectious, and her laughter would fill the lounge as she reminisced about her favourite partners and cherished performances.
News of June’s passing was met with heartfelt sorrow across Dene Place. For staff and residents alike, she was more than just a resident; she was a friend, a confidante, and a source of inspiration. Our team gathered to share memories, comfort one another, and reflect on the privilege of having known such a remarkable woman.
Staff members spoke of June’s kindness and her unwavering encouragement. She had a way of making everyone feel valued, always taking the time to ask after others and offer a listening ear. Her positivity and resilience were a beacon, especially to those who faced challenges of their own.
On the day of June’s funeral, several members of the Dene Place team attended the service, joining her family and friends in a moving celebration of her life. The ceremony was a beautiful reflection of June’s spirit—elegant, heartfelt, and full of love. As a gesture of appreciation, staff were presented with garlands of exquisite white roses, a symbol of the family’s gratitude for the care and companionship June received during her time at Dene Place.
Perhaps the most poignant moment came when June’s family donated her beloved ballroom dancing shoes to the home. These shoes, worn smooth from years of movement, now hold pride of place in our lounge—a lasting tribute to June’s passion and the joy she brought to so many.
In the days that followed, we held our own tribute to June within the care home. Residents and staff gathered to share stories, look through photographs, and listen to some of June’s favourite dance tunes. The atmosphere was one of gentle reflection, tinged with sadness but also with gratitude for the memories we shared.
Our activities team arranged a special afternoon tea, complete with music and a display of June’s dancing shoes and memorabilia. Residents reminisced about the times they spent with June—her infectious laughter, her encouragement to join in with activities, and her gentle wisdom.
At Dene Place, we believe that every life is unique and deserving of celebration. When a resident passes away, we come together as a community to honour their legacy and support one another. These moments of remembrance are not only a way to say goodbye but also a chance to reflect on the richness of the lives we are privileged to share.
June’s story reminds us of the importance of embracing individuality and cherishing the passions that define us. Her legacy lives on in the laughter she inspired, the friendships she nurtured, and the spirit of dance she brought to our home.
The gift of June’s dancing shoes is a powerful symbol—a reminder that our passions and stories continue to resonate long after we are gone. They serve as an invitation to future residents and staff to embrace life with the same enthusiasm and grace that June embodied.
We have placed June’s shoes in a special display, alongside a photograph of her in her dancing days. This small tribute is a daily reminder of the joy and inspiration she brought to Dene Place.
Loss is never easy, but at Dene Place, we find strength in community. Our team is committed to supporting residents and families through every stage of life, offering comfort, compassion, and a listening ear. We understand that saying goodbye is part of the journey, and we are honoured to walk alongside our residents and their loved ones during these times.
June Ruth Kathleen Florence David will be deeply missed, but her spirit will forever be part of Dene Place. We are grateful for the time we shared, the stories we heard, and the lessons we learned from her remarkable life. As we continue to dance, laugh, and support one another, we do so with June’s memory in our hearts.
To June’s family, thank you for entrusting us with her care and for sharing her legacy with our community. To June: thank you for reminding us all that it’s never too late to dance.
