At Seaview Nursing Home, Father’s Day is more than just a date on the calendar—it’s a heartfelt celebration of the remarkable fathers, grandfathers, and father figures who make up our cherished community. This year’s event was filled with energy, emotion, and unforgettable moments, brought to life through music, memories, and plenty of laughter.
As part of the Cardinal Healthcare family, Seaview embodies our ethos of placing the wellbeing of our residents at the heart of everything we do. Father’s Day offered the perfect opportunity to show our appreciation through a celebration that was both personal and joyful—an event that recognised each resident as an individual with a unique story and legacy.
Our Father’s Day festivities kicked off with a spectacular performance from the Raven Drummers, a local group known for their powerful, rhythmic energy. As the first beats echoed through the home, residents and staff gathered in the main lounge, immediately captivated by the vibrant sounds and pulsing rhythms.
The Raven Drummers brought with them a contagious energy that had toes tapping and hands clapping throughout their set. Their lively performance not only lifted spirits but also created a sense of connection and community, transcending words and touching everyone in the room.
For many of our residents, music holds a special place in their hearts, evoking memories and feelings from years gone by. The drummers’ performance sparked spontaneous smiles and shared looks of recognition—proof of music’s timeless ability to unite and inspire.
As the applause for the Raven Drummers faded, the room settled for a very special moment: a piano performance by one of our own residents, Mr Alistair, a former music teacher and lifelong pianist. Alistair, who has been living at Seaview for just over a year, had prepared a selection of his favourite classical pieces and jazz standards.
The atmosphere shifted from lively to mesmerised as Alistair’s fingers moved effortlessly across the keys. His playing was expressive, elegant, and utterly breath-taking, bringing tears to the eyes of several listeners. Staff and residents alike were stunned by the beauty and precision of his performance, which reminded us all that age and health do not diminish talent or passion.
No celebration is complete without good food, and this year’s Father’s Day feast was no exception. We treated our residents to a hearty favourite: sausage and chips, served hot with plenty of sauces, optional fried onions, and crispy golden chips—just the way our gentlemen like them. For dessert, our kitchen team prepared a colourful array of cupcakes, each lovingly decorated with icing, sprinkles, and miniature flags reading “#1 Dad”.
The dining room was filled with chatter, laughter, and the warm clink of cutlery as everyone tucked in. For many of our residents, food is not just about nourishment—it’s about comfort, memories, and a sense of occasion. The meal gave our residents the chance to come together and celebrate in the most familiar of ways: over good food, shared in good company.
We were delighted to welcome several family members who joined in the celebration, either in person or through video calls facilitated by our team. For those unable to be with their loved ones physically, heartfelt cards and messages were read aloud, with a few bringing smiles and even joyful tears.
One particularly touching moment came when Mr Hughes received a surprise video message from his grandson, who is currently serving abroad. The emotional moment was shared by all, and Mr Hughes was visibly moved, saying, “That’s the best gift I could’ve asked for.”
Our activities team also encouraged residents to share stories and memories of fatherhood, which led to some wonderful exchanges. Tales of camping trips, first football matches, Sunday roasts, and proud parenting moments reminded us of the richness of life that our residents bring to Seaview every day.
At Cardinal Healthcare, we understand that each resident is an individual with a unique past and personality. Celebrations like Father’s Day are shaped around this understanding. Through life history assessments and close relationships with residents and their families, we ensure that events are meaningful and inclusive for everyone involved.
Some of our residents preferred a quieter celebration, choosing to enjoy a special meal in their rooms or have a one-to-one chat with staff. These quieter moments are just as important, and our team is always attentive to the needs and preferences of each person we care for.
Whether through lively music, heartfelt gifts, or simply the company of someone who listens, Father’s Day at Seaview was designed to honour every man in our care—not just as a resident, but as a person with a story worth celebrating.
We would be remiss not to thank our incredible staff, whose dedication and hard work made the day so memorable. From setting up decorations and coordinating performers to preparing meals and supporting residents throughout the day, every team member played a vital role in creating a warm, inclusive, and joyful atmosphere.
Our staff bring Cardinal Healthcare’s ethos to life every day through their compassion, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to person-centred care. Father’s Day was another opportunity for them to show just how much they care—and they did so beautifully.
As the day came to a close, residents relaxed in the lounge, cupcakes in hand, while Alistair played a soft tune in the background. It was the perfect end to a perfect day.
Father’s Day at Seaview Nursing Home was a powerful reminder of the love, laughter, and dignity that define life in our home. We are proud to offer a space where residents can continue to create meaningful memories, celebrate who they are, and feel truly at home.
Here’s to all the fathers and father figures we celebrated—and to the dedicated team who made the day unforgettable.
