At The Willows Nursing Home, we recently had the honour and delight of celebrating a truly remarkable milestone, the 100th birthday of our beloved resident, Gangaben. Surrounded by family, friends, fellow residents, and staff, the day was filled with joy, music, dancing, and a very special message from His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Queen.
One of the most treasured moments of the celebration was the presentation of a birthday card from King Charles III and Queen Camilla, personally addressed to Gangaben to mark her centenary. This royal gesture brought a beaming smile to her face and was a proud moment for all present. The beautifully crafted card now holds pride of place in her room, serving as a cherished reminder of this once-in-a-lifetime occasion.
Receiving a card from the monarch is a long-standing British tradition for those reaching 100 years of age, and it was incredibly moving to see Gangaben honoured in such a distinguished way. She has lived a life full of resilience, wisdom, and grace — qualities we are proud to celebrate every day at The Willows.
To honour Gangaben’s heritage and ensure the celebration was as vibrant as her personality, the nursing home was transformed into a colourful venue full of life and cultural flair. Traditional decorations and floral garlands brightened the space, setting the scene for an unforgettable party.
The highlight of the entertainment was a captivating performance by a group of professional Bollywood dancers. Dressed in dazzling costumes and performing energetic routines, the dancers brought joy and rhythm to the occasion. Their performance was not only a tribute to Gangaben’s Indian roots but also a wonderful cultural experience for all in attendance. Residents clapped along enthusiastically, and a few even joined in with a gentle sway to the music.
The celebration was made all the more special by the presence of Gangaben’s family, many of whom travelled from far and wide to be with her on this momentous day. Watching the generations come together to honour their matriarch was truly heartwarming. Stories were shared, laughter echoed through the home, and emotions ran high as everyone reflected on Gangaben’s incredible journey through life.
A delicious spread of food, including some of Gangaben’s favourite traditional dishes, was prepared with care by our kitchen team. A beautifully decorated cake, complete with 100 candles (which Gangaben proudly helped to blow out!), was the centrepiece of the afternoon tea. Each guest raised a toast in celebration of her life, legacy, and the love she continues to share.
Gangaben’s 100 years have been filled with extraordinary experiences, strength of character, and unwavering love for her family and community. Her story has inspired not only her loved ones but also the team and residents at The Willows. It was a privilege to honour her in such a joyful and meaningful way.
At The Willows Nursing Home, we believe in celebrating every resident’s milestones with warmth, dignity, and respect. Gangaben’s centenary was not only a celebration of age but of a life beautifully lived and a future still filled with love and laughter.
We thank everyone — family, performers, staff, and residents — who helped make this celebration so special. And most of all, we thank Gangaben for allowing us to be part of her 100-year journey. Here’s to many more happy and healthy days ahead!
